Wike-Aligned PDP Bloc Disbands Party Executives in 14 States Amid Power Struggle

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced the dissolution of state working committees in 14 states, intensifying the party’s ongoing internal crisis.

The decision followed a meeting of party stakeholders aligned with the Wike-backed group, who accused the affected state executives of engaging in anti-party conduct and actions capable of weakening the opposition. The faction said the step was necessary to reorganise the party and prepare it for future electoral contests, though it did not immediately disclose the names of all the affected states.

The group also scheduled fresh state and zonal congresses for 2026, describing the move as part of efforts to rebuild party structures, promote internal democracy, and restore confidence among grassroots members.

According to a spokesperson, the dissolution was carried out in accordance with the PDP constitution, arguing that the removed executives no longer enjoyed the trust and support of party faithful in their states.

The action has, however, drawn sharp criticism from leaders aligned with the PDP’s national leadership, who dismissed it as unlawful and warned that it could further fracture the party and derail reconciliation initiatives.

Observers say the development highlights the deepening divisions within the PDP, fueled by disputes over leadership authority, strategic direction, and political alliances as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
