Aliko Dangote, head of the Dangote Group, has given a Kaduna‑based businessman a seven‑day deadline to retract and apologize for comments aired on Trust TV. In the notice, Dangote’s legal counsel alleges the remarks falsely portrayed the billionaire as involved in shady dealings in Port Harcourt during the 1980s and questioned the origins of his wealth.
The letter warns that if the demands are not met, Dangote will file a ₦100 billion defamation suit and pursue criminal charges. The lawyers stress that the accusations are baseless and have harmed Dangote’s reputation both locally and abroad.
The businessman is being asked to appear on Trust TV, issue a public apology with equal prominence, and sign a written commitment to avoid any further damaging statements.
This standoff underscores the growing friction between Nigeria’s major conglomerates and smaller entrepreneurs navigating the country’s competitive business landscape.
