Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu is set to present his “Budget of Shared Prosperity” to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, outlining a N4.2 trillion plan for the next fiscal year. The massive budget, the largest in the state’s history, is built around four strategic pillars: a human‑centric city, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy, and effective governance, all aimed at cementing Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse.
Key allocations include N1.47 trillion for economic affairs and infrastructure, N338 billion for health, N249 billion for education, and N123 billion for housing. The government says the spending will fast‑track major projects, expand drainage, roll out smart‑city solutions, and boost social welfare, ensuring that every Lagos resident feels the benefits of growth.
Sanwo‑Olu highlighted that the 2026 budget reflects strong fiscal discipline, noting an 81 percent performance rate for the 2025 fiscal year. He urged lawmakers to give the plan swift approval, stressing that this is the final full‑year budget of his administration and a pivotal moment to lock in lasting development for the megacity.
The governor’s vision also looks beyond bricks and mortar, emphasizing support for MSMEs, circular‑economy initiatives, and empowerment programs for women, youth, and persons with disabilities. If passed, the budget is expected to accelerate Lagos’ transformation into a resilient, inclusive, and globally competitive hub.
