Oyo ADC Calls on Makinde to Account for N50bn Bodija Relief Funds

The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to fully disclose how the N50 billion intervention funds for the January 2024 Bodija explosion were used.

In a statement on Sunday, the ADC’s Publicity Secretary, Bimpe Adelowo, criticized the state government for a lack of transparency, describing the handling of the relief funds as misleading. The party’s demand follows claims by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose that Oyo State had requested N50 billion from the Federal Government for reconstruction and support for victims.

Governor Makinde’s aides, however, maintain that only N30 billion was released. The ADC insists that the public has not been given a clear account of the funds, pointing out that while N4.5 billion was reportedly disbursed to victims, the remainder has not been properly documented.

The party called on Makinde to provide a detailed breakdown of the intervention funds and urged him to apologise for what it described as a failure in accountability.

The Bodija explosion in January 2024 caused widespread destruction and loss of life in Ibadan, prompting federal assistance. While critics allege that N50 billion was requested, Makinde’s office maintains that only N30 billion was made available for relief efforts.
