Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, on Thursday paid a New Year courtesy visit to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, in Umuahia.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Governor Uzodinma explained that the visit was not politically motivated but a friendly New Year visit to his colleague and brother governor.

“My visit is simply a courtesy call to wish my brother a happy New Year. I also prayed that God strengthens all of us to continue to serve our people better,” he said.

Uzodinma reiterated the collective resolve of South-East Governors to work together to fast-track development across the region, stressing that collaboration remains key.

“We in the South-East are determined to develop our region, and the only way to achieve this is through cooperation. As Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, I have a responsibility to engage my colleagues, share ideas, and agree on ways to improve the lives of our people,” he stated.

He further emphasized that all five governors in the region are united and committed to ensuring that the South-East remains an integral part of Nigeria.

Uzodinma, who also serves as Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors in the South-East and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, commended Governor Otti for what he described as exemplary governance in Abia State.

In his remarks, Governor Otti thanked his guest for the visit, noting that although both leaders belong to different political parties, governance should not be mistaken for opposition.

“This is not necessarily a political visit. Even though we may discuss politics as politicians, the most important message is that government is one at the federal, state, and local levels. You cannot be in opposition to a government you are part of,” Governor Otti stated.

He added that disagreements may occur in governance, but once a collective decision is taken, all parties work together in the interest of the nation.

Governor Uzodinma was accompanied by former Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, among others, while Abia State Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, and members of the Abia Executive Council were also present at the meeting.
