Joshua reportedly touched down at London Stansted Airport late Friday night aboard a private jet and was immediately taken to his residence to continue his recovery. According to sources, the boxer was initially scheduled to leave the Murtala Mohammed International Airport at 2:10 p.m., but departure was delayed until 3:45 p.m. for undisclosed reasons. His aircraft eventually arrived in London around 9:45 p.m.
Details of the tragic crash emerged during court proceedings involving Joshua’s driver, 47-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, who is standing trial before the Ogun State Multidoor Court in Sagamu. He faces charges of manslaughter, reckless driving and driving without a licence and has pleaded not guilty.
Testifying in court, Kayode revealed that Joshua had initially sat in the front passenger seat but later moved to the back due to discomfort caused by his height and long legs. He said the journey was smooth until he suddenly lost control after the vehicle’s brakes failed, leading to the crash that killed two passengers and left Joshua injured.
The case has been adjourned as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his sympathy to Joshua. Through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President confirmed that he personally spoke with the boxer to express condolences and offer prayers. Tinubu also contacted Joshua’s mother to comfort the family and assure them of his support.
Joshua is said to be receiving adequate medical care as he continues his recovery.
