The Abia State Government has reacted to a statement attributed to the Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, in which he vowed to “capture and deliver” the Abia Government House to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the government acknowledged Senator Kalu’s right to support his preferred candidate, including his younger brother, for the APC governorship ticket. However, it reminded him that political power in Abia is determined by the people, not by any individual or family.
The statement warned against attempts to turn the state into what it described as a “family fiefdom,” where one family seeks to control multiple key positions including Senator, Governor, National Assembly Service Commission representative, and Ambassador.
The government reaffirmed that the Labour Party, as the ruling party in the state, is fully prepared for the 2027 elections, adding that the party already has strong and credible aspirants ready to vie for the Abia North senatorial ticket.
It assured party members and supporters that at the appropriate time, they would be mobilized to support the Labour Party’s candidates, while calling on Abians to reject political domination by any single family and work towards a progressive future for the state.
