A 17‑year‑old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a Nigerian man in south‑east London on New Year’s Eve.

The victim, 23‑year‑old Nigerian resident John Temitope Onetufo, was found with stab wounds on Grove Street in Lewisham shortly after midday on December 31. Emergency services responded, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metropolitan Police officers arrested multiple suspects in the days following the incident. On January 5, the teenager — whose identity is protected due to his age — was formally charged with murder and is expected to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Youth Court.

Two other individuals arrested earlier have been released on bail while inquiries continue, as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police have appealed to the public for information that could aid the investigation and bring justice for Onetufo’s family.
