Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Friday, January 10, joined members of his cabinet and other dignitaries at the burial ceremony of the late Dame Peace Onyekwuleche Igbokwe, mother of the Chief Executive Officer of DON Media Group, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (DON Lulu).

The burial service was held at Wesley Methodist Church, Crowther Street, Umuahia.

In his address, Governor Otti urged Mayor Igbokwe and his siblings to take comfort in their Christian faith and not to grieve as those without hope. He expressed confidence that the late Dame Igbokwe, who lived a devoted Christian life, has gone to be with the Lord and will reunite with her loved ones on the resurrection morning.

“As you mourn, do not mourn like unbelievers, because she certainly knows she has reached heaven. As Christians, we believe that the soul returns to its Maker,” the Governor said. “On that resurrection morning, when we shall meet to part no more, she will be among us, and we will rise to meet her again.”

Governor Otti thanked God for the life of the deceased, describing her as a woman of great substance who made remarkable impact within a short period.

“I want to thank God for the gift of a woman of substance who, as if she knew she was not going to be here for long, achieved so much in a short time,” he said. “It is not the years in our life, but the life in our years. If you read her biography, you will agree that she lived ahead of her time and raised wonderful children.”

Several prominent personalities accompanied the Governor to the service, including the National Secretary of the Labour Party, Senator Darlington Nwokocha; the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha; members of the Abia State House of Assembly; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, PhD; and other senior government officials.
