The Abia State Government has received an overwhelming 28,213 applications for 4,000 advertised teaching positions in the state.

The application portal opened in early November 2025 and allowed candidates several weeks to submit their details. Applicants were also given the opportunity to review and correct their submissions before the next stage of the recruitment process.

Candidates who meet the screening requirements will be invited to sit for computer-based tests, followed by interviews for successful candidates.

This recruitment marks the second phase of the state’s ongoing effort to strengthen its teaching workforce, bringing the total number of newly employed teachers under the current administration to over 9,000.

In addition, the state plans to inaugurate a Safe Schools Steering Committee to address security concerns in schools and coordinate safety protocols across learning institutions.

Officials noted that the large number of applicants reflects the high demand for public sector employment and underscores the importance of teaching jobs in Abia’s education sector.
