The Abia State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has reaffirmed its full support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, ahead of the 2027 elections, while criticizing political rhetoric it described as “speculative” and rooted in the failures of past administrations.

In a statement signed by ALGON Chairman, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, the association highlighted recent political activities and statements by former leaders and their allies, suggesting that these were attempts to undermine the governor’s record. ALGON stressed that leadership should be measured by tangible results and the will of the people, not political maneuvering.

The statement detailed Governor Otti’s achievements, noting progress in infrastructure development, healthcare and education rehabilitation, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, elimination of salary arrears, and effective management of public resources. ALGON also observed a renewed sense of pride among Abians, both locally and in the diaspora, attributing this to increased confidence in governance under Otti.

As the primary representatives of grassroots governance, local government chairmen emphasized their close connection with communities and confirmed that citizens are increasingly supportive of the state’s current trajectory. ALGON suggested that opposition unease is not due to governance failures but rather the stark contrast between Otti’s accomplishments and the shortcomings of previous administrations.

The association urged political actors to focus on constructive engagement and policy proposals instead of spreading divisive narratives, warning against any attempts to pre-empt democratic processes.

Concluding its statement, ALGON declared unanimous support for Governor Otti’s re-election in 2027, praising his leadership, performance, and commitment to service delivery. The group also reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening local governance and improving citizens’ quality of life, insisting that the future of Abia State remains in the hands of its people.
