Imo State has announced full readiness to compete at the upcoming Second Niger Delta Games in Benin City, Edo State, with officials intensifying preparations to improve on their performance from the first edition in Uyo.
Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, the state’s Commissioner for Sports and Chairman of the Imo State Liaison Committee for the games, said all 27 local government areas have been mobilised to screen and identify top athletes who will take part in the state trials.
Onyeocha said the committee has completed preparation plans and is working closely with the 17 accredited sports associations and their coaches to ensure a thorough scouting process. He urged local councils to register only the best athletes to guarantee strong representation for Imo State.
Young talents from across the state have reportedly been identified and assembled as part of early efforts to field a competitive team at the regional multi‑sport event, which brings together athletes from the nine Niger Delta states.
