Whistleblower Detained as Police Deny Bail Over Alpha‑Beta Firm Fraud Allegations

The Nigeria Police Force has declined to grant bail to Comrade Segun Oluwasanmi, a former employee and whistleblower who publicly raised concerns about alleged corruption and tax irregularities at Alpha‑Beta Consulting Limited, a private firm linked to President Bola Tinubu.

Oluwasanmi and another individual, Etim Alfred, have remained in detention for longer than the Nigerian constitution allows, despite having met bail conditions and being close to the court. Police say they need more time for further investigation.

His family says that multiple bail applications were ignored and that the police did not bring him before a court as previously promised. They also raised concerns over threats reportedly made by authorities to force him to unlock his mobile phone.

Oluwasanmi was arrested by officers from the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Ikeja, Lagos, after submitting petitions to anti‑corruption agencies alleging that the firm under‑declared employee salaries and under‑remitted taxes. He claims internal documents show systematic under‑payment of statutory contributions and inflated contract costs.

The police have described the case as one involving alleged cyberbullying, but the family insists the real motive behind the arrest is his whistle‑blowing on financial misconduct.
