Enugu State police officers, working with local Neighbourhood Watch volunteers, stopped an alleged kidnapping along the Adani–Nsukka Road early Sunday morning. Around 6:00 a.m., the team encountered armed men hiding near a bush along the Ngene‑Ukwu section of the highway as they were preparing to abduct passengers in a passing vehicle.

The suspects opened fire on the officers, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire. One of the armed men was killed in the shootout, and police recovered an AK‑47 rifle with live ammunition. Other members of the group fled into the nearby forest with gunshot injuries, according to authorities.

Police confirmed that a manhunt is underway to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the attempted abduction.
