Abia State has announced plans to demolish and rebuild the Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology in Aba, replacing its ageing buildings with modern facilities as part of a broader effort to improve public tertiary institutions.

According to a statement from the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti, most of the existing structures at the college — some more than 70 years old and in serious disrepair — will be taken down and reconstructed to offer a safer and more supportive learning environment for students.

The government says this initiative is aligned with Governor Otti’s wider programme to rehabilitate and upgrade state‑owned universities, polytechnics, and colleges across Abia. Visual designs of the planned new buildings were released to show what the revitalised campus will look like once completed.

The statement also highlighted other ongoing education projects in the state, including transformation work at the Abia State College of Education (Technical) in Arochukwu, extensive rebuilding at Abia State University in Uturu, and construction progress at the permanent site of Abia State Polytechnic in Aba. Major upgrades are also underway at the Abia State University Teaching Hospital in Aba.

Officials say the college reconstruction is part of efforts to reverse years of neglect in the education sector and improve academic standards and infrastructure in public institutions across the state.
