A local bicycle club in Lagos turned its wheels toward community support and safer roads on Saturday, rolling out a special outreach effort to recognise the unsung work of street sweepers.
The Cycology Cycling Club organised its “Love on the Sidewalk” campaign, handing out 300 boxes of dry food and essentials to sanitation workers in busy city districts including Bourdillon, Dolphin, Osborne, TBS, and Oworo. The initiative was aimed at both showing appreciation and highlighting how clean streets contribute to safer conditions for all people who use the road, especially cyclists.
Club leaders explained that the project has become an annual tradition, funded through contributions from members and sponsors who share a vision of greater support for people whose work helps keep Lagos’ roads clear of hazards. Participants said the event also helped raise awareness of street sweepers’ daily efforts and the link between cleanliness, road safety, and community wellbeing.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, celebrating the recognition and the practical support provided by the cycling community. Organisers said they hope to expand the initiative further next year, reaching even more workers and continuing to advocate for safer, cleaner road environments for all.
