Army Says Troops Sent to Ebonyi to Restore Order, Rejects Social Media Claims of Invasion

The Nigerian Army has addressed widespread online videos suggesting that its deployment in Ebonyi State’s Amasiri area was an “invasion,” calling such claims inaccurate. Troops were sent in to respond to serious violent incidents and protect local people, not to intimidate or occupy communities.

The intervention followed reports of multiple killings — including the beheading of four individuals in a nearby village — and the discovery of shallow graves in Amasiri, which raised alarm among authorities. Security forces were mobilised to help enforce order, support investigations, and ensure the safety of residents and response teams.

In addition to army units, other agencies like the police and state security operatives are involved in joint patrols and searches for suspects. The statement emphasised that operations were focused on criminal elements alleged to be fuelling tension, and not on ordinary citizens.

The army urged members of the public to ignore misleading content on social media and to recognise the intervention as part of broader efforts to bring peace and justice to the affected communities.
