The Abia State Government has officially taken control of the Afro Beverages facility from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), signaling a renewed focus on industrial revitalization. The move was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises.

Officials say the acquisition is aimed at bringing dormant industrial assets back to life, boosting local economic activity, and generating employment for residents. The government plans to implement strategies that will ensure the facility becomes a productive contributor to the state’s economy.

This takeover comes on the heels of the recent acquisition of the Star Paper Mill, highlighting the state’s broader commitment to restoring abandoned industries. Authorities believe that reviving such facilities will strengthen Abia’s manufacturing sector and attract further investment.

Residents and business stakeholders have welcomed the government’s intervention, expressing optimism that the move will create job opportunities, stimulate growth, and reinforce the state’s industrial base. Plans for modernization and operational restart are reportedly underway.
