The legal representative for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has formally petitioned the Inspector‑General of Police, Tunji Disu, to stop legal actions against individuals arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanu protests.

The legal team argued that the arrests were unjustified, emphasizing that participants were exercising their rights to peaceful assembly and free expression. They stressed that continuing prosecutions could escalate tensions and undermine public trust in law enforcement.

The appeal highlights growing concerns over how authorities manage political demonstrations and calls for a measured approach that respects civil liberties while maintaining public order.

The lawyer also urged the police to review all pending cases against the protesters, suggesting alternative measures such as warnings or community service instead of criminal charges. The move is being seen as an effort to prevent further confrontations between security agencies and activists.
