Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to conduct the party’s governorship campaign responsibly, warning against any form of violence.
Speaking on Monday while receiving Mr. Henrich Akomolafe, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with over 1,000 followers in Ikere Ekiti, Oyebanji emphasized that all candidates contesting the June 20 governorship election are indigenes of Ekiti State.
“Don’t fight anybody. I don’t want bloodshed,” the governor said, stressing the need for peaceful political engagement.
Oyebanji also outlined the APC’s goal of securing 600,000 votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, urging residents to obtain their voters’ cards ahead of the polls. He revealed that the party would officially begin its campaign after the conclusion of Ramadan and Lent.
“I know we have won the governorship election, but our focus is on supporting President Tinubu. We need up to 600,000 votes because some states will be casting over 1 million votes,” he said.
The governor welcomed Akomolafe to the APC, describing him as a capable politician who would strengthen the party in the state.
Also present at the event, former Governor Ayodele Fayose congratulated Oyebanji on his anticipated victory while emphasizing the importance of maximizing votes for President Tinubu. Representing other former governors, Fayose praised Oyebanji’s humility and governance style as exemplary.
Akomolafe, who contested the 2023 House of Representatives election under the PDP, explained his defection, saying he was inspired by Oyebanji’s achievements in office and President Tinubu’s “Renew Hope Agenda.”
“I joined the APC to support the governor and ensure he receives more votes. My coming is to strengthen the progressive family and contribute to the party’s success,” he said.
The event highlighted the APC’s commitment to a peaceful and strategic campaign ahead of Ekiti’s 2026 governorship election.
