A federal court yesterday acquitted suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, along with his brothers, in a case brought by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to sustain the charges against them.
During the proceedings, the defense emphasized inconsistencies in the agency’s evidence, highlighting gaps that cast doubt on the credibility of the claims. The judge noted that the burden of proof rests on the prosecution, which was not met in this instance.
Following the ruling, Kyari’s legal team expressed relief, stating that the judgment vindicates their client and clears his name of any wrongdoing. The family, present in court, appeared visibly relieved and thanked the judiciary for upholding justice.
NDLEA has yet to comment on the dismissal, but the outcome marks a significant development in the high-profile case, which had attracted widespread media attention and public scrutiny.
