Islamic Leaders Urge Nigerians to Avoid Protests Over Middle East Crisis

A coalition of Islamic clerics in Lagos has called on Nigerians to prioritize peace and reflection instead of joining protests related to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. They warned that demonstrations over international conflicts—especially those many may not fully understand—could lead to unrest and disrupt communal harmony.

Speaking at a Ramadan programme in Ikeja, the chief representative of a major Muslim organisation advised people to think carefully before participating in street actions, noting that even well-intentioned protests can be exploited by individuals with violent motives.

The clerics cited past national demonstrations as examples of how peaceful gatherings can quickly turn disorderly and urged Nigerians to use religious seasons for prayer and unity rather than public protest.

Their appeal comes amid ongoing global tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, with some small demonstrations already occurring in parts of the country. The leaders stressed the importance of safety and peaceful coexistence.
