A high‑stakes boxing selection tournament is currently underway in Lagos as 128 fighters, including four based abroad, vie for just 10 positions on Nigeria’s team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The competition, held at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Complex in Surulere, features both male and female boxers across ten weight categories. Preliminary bouts are progressing through quarter-finals and semi-finals ahead of the finals.

Officials confirmed that the final team will include five men and five women, with the selected athletes joining the national camp as preparations intensify for the Games later this year.

Nigeria aims to build on its strong Commonwealth Games boxing history, with competitors hoping to secure their spots and deliver outstanding performances on the international stage.
