The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has stepped in to ease the financial burden of medical expenses for victims of a recent fire incident and other patients at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
During a visit to the hospital, the governor covered the bills of a pregnant woman and her husband, whose spouse suffered severe burns in a fire in Ekpoma. The couple had sought assistance to settle mounting medical costs.
Medical staff attending to the woman arranged for a prompt caesarean section, resulting in a successful delivery. The governor described the intervention as part of his administration’s broader effort to support residents facing urgent health challenges.
Okpebholo also instructed that the bills of several other patients be covered by the state government, ensuring that financial constraints would not hinder ongoing treatment. Relatives of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, praising the government’s commitment to citizens during medical emergencies.
