In a tightly contested Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 first‑leg match on Wednesday night, Inter Miami CF were held to a 0‑0 draw by Nashville SC, leaving Argentine superstar Lionel Messi still waiting for a major career milestone.

Messi, who came into the game on the brink of becoming only the second male footballer in history to score 900 official career goals, was unable to find the back of the net at GEODIS Park. Despite controlling possession for much of the match, Miami could not convert their pressure into scoring chances against a well‑organized Nashville defence.

The 38‑year‑old has already netted 899 goals across club and international competition, including his current tally with Miami, but saw his bid for the landmark goal thwarted after tight marking and some key saves by Nashville’s goalkeeper.

Miami dominated possession for more than half of the game, controlling the ball and looking to break the deadlock, but finished with limited clear chances. Nashville, meanwhile, tested Miami’s resilience with a series of counterattacks and shots that kept pressure on both ends.

The result means the tie remains balanced heading into the second leg in Fort Lauderdale next week, where Miami will hope to take advantage of home support and give Messi another opportunity to reach the elusive 900‑goal mark.

Fans and pundits alike will now turn their attention to the return fixture, where Miami must find a breakthrough to advance in the tournament and, perhaps, finally see Messi achieve this historic landmark.
