The United Nations has asked for the travel details of Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the organisation, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, ahead of his resumption at the UN headquarters in New York.
Ibrahim, who currently serves as a senator, was nominated for the diplomatic role by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025.
In a message sent to Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, the UN requested information about Ibrahim’s expected arrival date in the United States, including his flight details.
According to the organisation, the information is needed to enable its protocol officials arrange a formal diplomatic reception for the Nigerian envoy at the airport before he officially presents his Letter of Credence to the UN Secretary-General.
Sources familiar with the development also indicated that all necessary approvals for Ibrahim to assume his duties and begin the diplomatic process upon arrival have already been secured.
Presenting the Letter of Credence is a standard diplomatic procedure through which ambassadors are formally recognised as representatives of their countries to international organisations.
Ibrahim previously participated in international parliamentary diplomacy and in 2023 presided over a session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva.
After completing the credential presentation ceremony, he is expected to formally begin his role as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
