The former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah, has extended warm birthday felicitations to distinguished cardiothoracic surgeon and respected academic, Prof. Kelechi E. Okonta, in celebration of his remarkable contributions to medicine and education.
In a goodwill message marking the occasion, Dr. Ogah described Prof. Okonta as an exceptional medical professional whose dedication to saving lives and mentoring younger generations has continued to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Prof. Kelechi E. Okonta is a Professor and Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, widely known for his expertise and years of service in the medical field. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of UniPort Press Limited and also represents the Senate on the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt.
Dr. Ogah noted that the celebrant’s leadership and commitment to academic excellence were evident during his tenure as the immediate past Head of the Department of Surgery at both the University of Port Harcourt and the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
He also highlighted Prof. Okonta’s previous roles as Director of the Youth Friendly Centre at the University of Port Harcourt and Head of Clinical Services at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he contributed significantly to strengthening healthcare delivery and institutional development.
According to the former minister, Prof. Okonta’s distinguished career has made him a source of pride to the nation and a role model for young medical practitioners.
