American actress Amy Madigan has won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2026 Academy Awards, defeating Nigerian-British actress Wunmi Mosaku and other nominees in the category.
The 98th edition of the Oscars took place on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Hollywood, United States, with comedian and television host Conan O’Brien returning as host for the ceremony.
Madigan clinched the award for her role in Weapons, making it the first prize announced at the event. Her victory placed her ahead of fellow nominees including Mosaku, Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Teyana Taylor.
Mosaku, who is of Nigerian heritage, had drawn attention for her performance in the film Sinners, which also received multiple nominations at the awards. The movie features prominent actors such as Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, both of whom were nominated for their roles in the film.
The Academy Awards remain one of the most prestigious honours in the global film industry, recognising excellence in areas such as acting, directing, writing, music, and technical production.
