In a dramatic post‑tournament ruling, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revoked Senegal’s championship from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, officially naming Morocco the winners instead.
Senegal had originally beaten Morocco 1–0 after extra time in the final played in January. But CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal’s brief walk‑off during the match in protest of a late penalty decision violated competition regulations, leading to a forfeit loss recorded as a 3–0 defeat under tournament rules.
As a result, Morocco are now recognized as the 2025 AFCON champions. Senegal’s football federation has condemned the decision as unfair and said it plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The ruling has sparked widespread controversy across African football, with many followers debating whether the enforcement of the regulations was justified nearly two months after the final was played.
