A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has made significant progress in solidifying its influence by organising and completing party elections in multiple states.
On Tuesday, party loyalists elected new executives in Plateau, Lagos, and Ebonyi states as part of a broader effort to prepare for an upcoming national convention scheduled later this month in Abuja. Before these state contests, the group had also carried out ward and zonal congresses to build momentum.
This drive to fill key positions comes amid ongoing internal disputes within the PDP, including a legal setback that nullified a previous national convention in Oyo State. Backers of the Wike faction say their strategy aims to create a unified base and ensure effective representation at the convention.
Supporters of the move argue that establishing strong leadership at the state level will help the party navigate its internal challenges and present a cohesive front ahead of the crucial national event later this month.
