The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports linking one of its personnel to an armed robbery incident in Abia State, clarifying that the suspect in question is not a serving soldier but an impersonator.

In a statement released by the Headquarters of the 14 Brigade in Ohafia, military authorities said the individual identified as Lance Corporal Chukwu Ebuka Peter is not on its records, contrary to claims circulating online. The Army explained that the reports prompted an internal review, which found no evidence connecting the suspect to its ranks.

According to the Army’s spokesperson for the Brigade, Captain Mazinho Attah, all legitimate personnel are registered with distinct service numbers, and the suspect’s identity could not be verified within any official military database.

Further investigations reportedly showed that the individual had no ties to any recognized unit, strengthening the conclusion that he falsely assumed a military identity to carry out criminal acts.

The Army condemned the act of impersonation, stressing that it maintains strict standards of discipline and accountability among its members. It added that any soldier found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate legal action under military regulations.

Members of the public were advised to ignore claims associating the suspect with the Army and to promptly report individuals posing as military personnel to security agencies.

Reassuring citizens, the Army reiterated its dedication to safeguarding lives and property while upholding professionalism and integrity in its operations.
