The Abia State Police Command has announced a significant restructuring, with Commissioner of Police CP Danladi Isa ordering the immediate disbandment of all tactical teams across the state. The move is part of a broader reform initiative aimed at improving accountability, operational discipline, and effectiveness within the force.
The directive was issued during an urgent briefing on March 18, 2026, attended by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical unit leaders, and section heads. The meeting followed consultations with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, emphasizing alignment with national policing standards.
Under the new framework, CP Isa revealed that specialized units focused on Anti-Cultism and Anti-Kidnapping will replace the previous tactical teams. The restructuring is intended to ensure better supervision, curb misconduct, and enhance organizational order. Officers were also instructed to avoid interfering in investigations handled at the divisional level unless formally authorized, while Area Commanders may only seek updates for oversight purposes.
Additionally, CP Isa reminded personnel to observe the Presidential directive banning private or VIP deployments, warning of strict disciplinary action for violations. He further urged officers to refrain from involvement in civil disputes, particularly land conflicts, and to promptly grant bail to eligible suspects in accordance with the law. Commending the successful training initiatives conducted by the Police Mobile Force and Counter Terrorism Unit, the Commissioner underscored the importance of continued capacity building. Newly deployed DCP Ifeanyi A. Ohuruzo also called for vigilance and adherence to operational protocols. CP Isa concluded by urging officers to maintain professionalism, ensure security, and uphold the image of the Nigeria Police Force in Abia State.
The announcement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner.
