An international organisation has introduced a set of guidelines aimed at curbing conflicts between farmers and cattle herders in Benue State.

The initiative, known as the Land Justice Guidelines for the Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts, focuses on peaceful ways to address disputes over land, water, and grazing rights. Officials say it forms part of broader efforts to support communities affected by recurring violence.

Mrs Ijeoma Nwafor, the organisation’s country representative, noted that many conflicts arise from competition over natural resources. She explained that the guidelines were developed through consultations with legal experts, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders.

Backed by international partners, the programme is designed to help communities prevent disputes from escalating and improve access to justice. Authorities and community leaders have expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of dialogue and cooperation in fostering lasting peace.
