A fatal accident involving two trucks has claimed one life and left another person injured on the M7 highway in Durban, near the Bellville off-ramp.
According to reports, the crash occurred when one truck rammed into the back of another that had broken down along the roadway. An individual who was in the rear of one of the trucks was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, while a truck driver sustained injuries.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, leading to the temporary closure of the M7 as rescue and recovery operations were carried out.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson confirmed the incident and urged motorists to steer clear of the affected route. He noted that the highway, particularly the Durban-bound lane near Bellville Road in the Malvern area, remained closed as emergency teams worked to clear the wreckage.
Jamieson also indicated that additional minor collisions had occurred in the area following the initial crash, further complicating traffic conditions. He advised drivers to avoid the M7 entirely until the situation is fully resolved, as it is unclear how long the cleanup operation will take.
