The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will actively participate in the 2027 general elections, assuring supporters that the party will field a presidential candidate. His statement comes amid ongoing political realignments and speculation about the future strength of opposition parties in Nigeria.
Wike emphasized that despite internal disagreements and recent setbacks, the PDP remains a formidable political force with nationwide structures capable of mounting a serious challenge in the next election cycle. He noted that preparations are already underway to reposition the party and restore confidence among its members and supporters.
According to the minister, the PDP leadership is committed to addressing internal divisions and strengthening unity ahead of 2027. He stressed that reconciliation efforts and strategic planning would play a key role in ensuring the party presents a credible and competitive candidate capable of winning broad national support.
Wike also urged party loyalists not to lose faith, insisting that the PDP’s legacy and experience in governance position it as a viable alternative in the country’s political landscape. He reaffirmed that the party will not only be on the ballot but will be fully prepared to contest and reclaim power at the highest level.
