Jonathan Highlights Need for Swift Justice in Post-Election Disputes

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has suggested establishing a dedicated court to handle election disputes, saying the current system, which routes cases through multiple courts before reaching the Supreme Court, often delays justice and frustrates voters.

He argued that a specialized tribunal for election matters would make the process faster, more transparent, and reduce legal bottlenecks that have in the past prolonged post-election litigations.

Jonathan emphasized that timely resolution of election disputes is crucial to maintaining public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and ensuring that the outcomes of elections are respected.

He also urged the judiciary to prioritize fairness and efficiency in electoral cases, noting that decisive action from the courts can prevent prolonged political uncertainty and strengthen the country’s democratic institutions.
