Abia Government Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Incite Violent Protest in Aba

The Abia State Government has raised concerns over an alleged plan by certain political actors to sponsor a protest aimed at destabilizing the state, particularly in Aba and surrounding areas.

In a statement issued on April 3, 2026, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, revealed that intelligence reports indicate that some opposition elements are mobilizing miscreants from Aba and neighboring states to stage a protest branded with the slogan “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”

According to the government, the planned protest is rooted in what it described as a “false narrative” alleging that the Federal Government funded projects currently being executed by the Abia State Government. Authorities noted that this claim had already been addressed, clarifying that federal reimbursements for such projects had ceased.

The statement further alleged that the protest could be escalated into violence, with the intention of provoking confrontations between hired individuals and state enforcement agencies, particularly the Aba Task Force. Such clashes, the government warned, could result in casualties and trigger reprisals, thereby creating widespread unrest.

The government expressed concern that the ultimate objective of the alleged plot is to generate instability and render the state ungovernable ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the state government emphasized that it welcomes dissent and constructive criticism from opposition groups. However, it warned that it would take decisive action against any individual or group attempting to endanger public safety under the guise of political opposition.

“It is important to remind those involved in this plot that the Abia State Government has both the will and the capacity to ensure that they face severe consequences,” the statement read.

The government also called on parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in any politically motivated protests that could lead to violence, stressing that such involvement may have serious repercussions.

Reiterating its stance, the Abia State Government assured residents that it remains committed to maintaining peace, security, and an open political environment where individuals can freely pursue their ambitions without fear of intimidation or violence.
