A youth leader of the African Action Congress (AAC) has criticized the long-standing dominance of familiar political figures in Nigeria, arguing that the country’s leadership space has remained largely unchanged since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
The youth representative expressed concern that many individuals who have held power over the years continue to recycle themselves through different positions, despite what he described as a lack of meaningful progress. According to him, this pattern has limited opportunities for new ideas and younger voices to emerge in governance.
He stressed that Nigeria’s development has been slowed by the persistence of the same political class, urging citizens to reconsider their support for leaders with longstanding records in government. He added that genuine transformation would require a shift away from entrenched political actors toward individuals with fresh perspectives.
The AAC youth leader also encouraged increased political participation among young people, insisting that meaningful change can only happen when a new generation becomes actively involved in shaping the country’s future leadership.
