Onanuga tells ADC to stop blaming Tinubu, INEC for internal crisis

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to take responsibility for its internal challenges instead of blaming President Bola Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His remarks followed protests by a faction of the party led by former Senate President, David Mark, over INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition of them as the party’s National Working Committee.

INEC’s action was based on a court ruling directing the crisis-ridden party to maintain the status quo ante bellum after another faction contested the leadership under Mark.

The opposing faction argued that Nafiu Bala, a former Deputy National Chairman, should assume the role of acting National Chairman following the resignation of the party’s former leader.

Responding to the development, Onanuga explained that the court’s directive to maintain status quo ante bellum means reverting to the party’s structure before the leadership dispute began—a position he said supports Bala’s claim.

In a post on X, Onanuga clarified that the term refers to restoring a previous state of affairs. He further alleged that the party’s crisis stemmed from internal actions, including claims surrounding its leadership changes and political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

He maintained that the ADC’s problems were self-inflicted and advised the party to stop holding Tinubu and INEC responsible for its predicament.
