Nigerian sprinter Olayinka Olajide produced one of her best performances of the season at the Texas Relays, running a new personal best of 11.13 seconds in the women’s 100 metres to move into eighth place on Texas Tech University’s all‑time list for the event.
Her previous fastest time had been slightly slower, and her latest run shows clear improvement as she continues to build momentum during the collegiate outdoor season.
Olajide also played a key role in helping the Red Raiders set a new school record in the women’s 1,600m sprint medley relay. Running the opening leg, she teamed up with Anita Afrifa, Mekenze Kelley, and Fanny Arendt to post a time of 3:43.95, breaking a record that had stood since 2005.
Earlier in the season, she had already lowered her 60m indoor best twice and opened her outdoor 200m campaign with another personal best, underscoring her consistent progression.
Olajide first drew attention on the international stage in 2024, representing Nigeria at the African Games, African Championships, and the Paris Olympics—where she helped secure relay qualification for the Games and won multiple medals in individual and relay events.
Her latest collegiate achievements add to a growing record of strong performances, positioning her as one of Texas Tech’s standout track athletes this season.
