Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called for collaboration among South-East governors to improve facilities at the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus.
The governor made this known during a meeting of the South East Law Development Initiative held at the Government House in Umuahia, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku.
The meeting highlighted concerns over the deteriorating condition of infrastructure at the Enugu campus. Emeka Ngige (SAN), who coordinates the initiative and chairs the Council of Legal Education, urged state governments in the region to intervene and support the institution.
In response, Otti proposed a unified approach, asking the group to formally notify the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum to facilitate collective action.
He said such engagement would enable governors in the region to explore ways of jointly addressing the challenges facing the law school.
Otti also praised the legal profession, describing lawyers and judges as vital to the preservation of justice and the protection of citizens’ rights.
He encouraged professionals, particularly those in law, to take an active interest in governance, noting that political decisions have far-reaching effects on all citizens.
The governor stressed that individuals who are not dependent on politics for survival should play a stronger role in leadership to help improve governance outcomes.
Reaffirming his administration’s focus on education, Otti pointed to ongoing efforts to establish a modern law faculty at Abia State University, Uturu.
Members of the South East Law Development Initiative commended the governor’s development efforts and pledged to support the state through pro bono legal services.
