Abuja, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respond to what it described as “disturbing” allegations concerning the alleged offering of land and cash gifts to some of its senior officials by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP expressed concern over reports suggesting that Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner for the FCT, had acknowledged receiving a land allocation from the minister.

The opposition party described the development as troubling, warning that it could point to what it termed a “land-for-favour” arrangement capable of undermining the independence of the electoral body.

According to the PDP, it is questionable that such allocations are reportedly being extended to officials linked to election administration, while professionals in other essential sectors within the FCT—such as healthcare, education, and security—are not receiving similar considerations.

The party also called on INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to publicly address the allegations and provide clarity, noting that circulating claims about his possible involvement have further heightened public concern.

It warned that unresolved allegations of this nature could weaken public confidence in INEC, particularly as the country prepares for future elections.

Reiterating its position, the PDP stressed the need for INEC to maintain strict neutrality and transparency in its engagements with public officials, emphasizing that safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process remains critical to sustaining democratic governance.
