A recent inspection by a civic‑oversight group has revealed shocking conditions at Community Grammar School, Odogbo in Atakumosa East LGA, Osun State. Students were found in classrooms with cracked walls, missing doors and windows, bare‑earth floors, and a roof held up by weak makeshift poles. Many were sitting on broken desks in half‑collapsed classrooms with holes in the walls and no learning materials.

The situation is particularly concerning given that the state’s education budget increased from ₦35.1 billion in 2024 to ₦55.1 billion in 2025.

Despite this funding, essential infrastructure remains neglected. The oversight group criticized the prioritization of overseas trips by state officials over investments in safe classrooms, boreholes, and learning materials for students forced to learn in unsafe and degrading conditions.

The group also urged state and federal lawmakers representing Atakumosa East to conduct constituency‑based needs assessments and ensure accountability. They called for the immediate reconstruction of the school, including safe classrooms, roofs, and learning resources, emphasizing that children deserve dignity, safety, and a proper learning environment.

The community’s only secondary school, Community Grammar School, Odogbo, has faced neglect for over 15 years, even as the state’s education allocations soared, highlighting the gap between funding and actual improvements.
