As political realignments intensify ahead of future elections in Delta State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced an ambitious plan to register about 2.3 million members, positioning itself as a formidable challenger in a state traditionally dominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The plan was unveiled over the weekend in Asaba by Prof. Festus Arunaye, a national member of the ADC Membership Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration Committee, during the inauguration of the committee’s Delta State chapter.

According to Arunaye, the mass registration exercise is designed to deepen political participation and deliver what he described as genuine dividends of democracy to the people of the state. He said the membership target reflects the party’s growing confidence in Delta’s highly competitive political landscape, despite the entrenched structures, resources and grassroots networks of the major parties.

Arunaye maintained that the ADC’s strength lies in its identity as a “party of the masses,” stressing that the party does not allow any individual, regardless of wealth or influence, to dominate its affairs.

He disclosed that prospective members would pay a token registration fee of ₦500, noting that the exercise would be conducted through both online and physical platforms across the state.

Calling on party leaders and coordinators to approach the registration drive with commitment, Arunaye said its success would significantly shape the ADC’s future prospects in Delta State. He also dismissed reports of internal divisions, insisting that the party in the state remains united and faction-free.

At a stakeholders’ meeting, registration materials, including ADC membership booklets, party flags, branded face caps and Nigerian flags, were formally presented to local government area coordinators. The items were handed over by a member of the party’s transition committee, Mr. George Timinimi, to support effective grassroots mobilisation statewide.
