Final-year students of Gyutiev Model College in Saghev Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, have reportedly set fire to the home of their principal, Mr. Isaac Yina, in protest over an alleged exam registration scam.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, following claims by the students that the principal failed to register them for the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) exams despite collecting ₦85,000 from each of the 178 candidates.
When contacted by DAILY POST, the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Police Command, SP Udeme Edet, said she had not yet received a report on the incident. She, however, promised to follow up and provide updates once more information is available.
This development comes amid heightened tension in Guma LGA, which has recently been grappling with violence, including a recent deadly attack on Yelwata community where over 200 people were reportedly killed.
