ABSU Refutes Unpaid Salary Claims, Confirms Regular Payments Under Governor Otti

The Management of Abia State University (ABSU) has debunked a recent online publication titled “Abia Varsity Lecturers Lament 12 Months Unpaid Salaries”, describing it as false, misleading, and aimed at tarnishing the image of both the University and the State Government.

According to a statement from the institution, the claim is baseless and a deliberate attempt to blackmail the University authorities and the administration of Governor Alex Otti, OFR.

Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, as the 5th democratically elected Governor of Abia State and Visitor to the University, Dr. Otti has consistently ensured the timely and regular payment of salaries to all verified staff of the institution.

In addition, the Governor approved the payment of 11 months’ salary arrears inherited from the previous administration, with 10 months of those arrears already cleared—a move the University Management described as a demonstration of his exceptional commitment to education and staff welfare.

The individuals behind the allegations are reportedly those who received irregular and temporary appointments during the last administration. Their appointments were terminated over a year ago due to procedural discrepancies. The University had assured that any among them who applied and met the requirements would be considered in the ongoing recruitment process, which has been approved by the State Government.

The Management urged the public to disregard the misleading report and appealed for restraint while the University continues its efforts to uphold transparency, fairness, and due process in all its engagements.
