History was made on Thursday, July 10, 2025, as Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, took a bold step towards strengthening security in Abia State by officially launching the Abia State Security Trust Fund. The event, held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, was a major milestone in the state’s security drive, with the fund aiming to mobilize billions of Naira in support of enhanced security operations.

The Abia State Security Trust Fund is a public-private partnership initiative designed to pool resources from government, private individuals, and corporate bodies to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of security agencies. Its purpose is to provide essential logistics, modern equipment, surveillance tools, communication devices, and other support that would enable security operatives to act swiftly and decisively.

Governor Otti, known for his proactive governance style, brought together a distinguished group of allies and benefactors, including Chief Arthur Eze (Eze N’Ukpo), Chief Deji Adeleke (father of music star Davido), Chief Innocent Chukwuma (CEO of Innoson Motors), Dr. Kaycee Orji (CEO of Roxettes Motors), Prof. Barth Nnaji (Chairman of Geometric Power), and numerous other prominent business leaders and philanthropists. Their support, alongside contributions from banks and companies operating in Abia, helped raise over ₦3.4 billion during the launch.

This initiative aligns with the provisions of the Abia State Security Trust Fund Law of 2024, which empowers the government to create and manage a structured funding mechanism for enhancing security across the state.

In his address, Governor Otti emphasized that the launch was part of a broader strategic approach to crime prevention and public safety. He thanked all donors for their generosity and urged citizens to take an active role in maintaining security in their communities.

Upon assuming office, Governor Otti had declared a state of emergency on security and made it a top priority to reclaim areas plagued by criminal activity—particularly Umunneochi and Isuikwuato, which had become hotbeds of insecurity. Through initiatives like Operation Crush and the deployment of armoured vehicles equipped with advanced surveillance systems, the governor has significantly improved the state’s security landscape. These efforts have made Abia a more attractive destination for investors and a preferred host for national conferences and events.

The launch of the Security Trust Fund is especially crucial, as insecurity not only threatens lives but also undermines economic development and social cohesion. Governor Otti has pledged that every naira contributed will be transparently and efficiently used, building on his administration’s track record of prudent financial management over the past 25 months.

While Abia is now relatively peaceful, the governor reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to securing lives and property. He called on all residents to remain vigilant, proactive, and supportive by reporting any suspicious activities to law enforcement.

Ultimately, Governor Alex Otti’s initiative reflects visionary leadership and a deep understanding that lasting security can only be achieved through collective responsibility.
