Tension is rising in Edo State following a strong warning from Governor Senator Monday Okpevbolo to former presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The governor has declared that Obi must not visit the state without prior notice, citing security concerns.
“There’s a new sheriff in town. He cannot enter Edo without informing me, because his safety cannot be guaranteed. If anything happens to him here, he’ll bear the consequences. I’m not joking,” Okpevbolo said in a fiery statement.
The governor accused Obi of sparking unrest during a previous visit, where he reportedly donated ₦15 million despite his campaign claims of having “no shishi.” Okpevbolo alleged that the visit led to a crisis in Benin City, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.
He ended his remarks with a direct warning: “Tell Obi, don’t come to Edo without informing me.”
As of now, there has been no official response from Peter Obi’s camp regarding the governor’s remarks.
