Dr. Ezeh Ezeh, a UK-trained entrepreneur and former Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, has weighed in on the evolving political landscape ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections. In an interview with Edward Nnachi, Ezeh clarified that the emerging coalition of political heavyweights—including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi—is not merely about removing President Bola Tinubu from power. Rather, he said, it is a genuine initiative to rescue Nigeria’s democracy from authoritarian decline and restore accountable governance.

He noted that members of the Obidient Movement are enthusiastic about the coalition, viewing it as a necessary response to what he described as the APC’s “dictatorial tendencies.” According to him, the ruling party has compromised democratic institutions and is attempting to establish a one-party state. He called on President Tinubu to consider stepping aside in 2027 and emulate Nelson Mandela by supporting electoral reforms that can produce credible leadership. He stressed that a Peter Obi presidency would offer Nigerians a true path toward national renewal and justice.

Ezeh also criticized certain Igbo politicians and elites for allegedly working against Peter Obi’s presidential ambition in favour of Atiku Abubakar. He accused them of being more interested in personal gain than national progress, warning that many of these same actors played divisive roles in the 2019 and 2023 elections. Ezeh described attempts to push Obi into accepting a vice-presidential role in 2027 as a betrayal, asserting that such a move is meant to sideline and diminish him. He argued that anyone backing Atiku’s return bid is effectively supporting the APC’s continuity in disguise.

On the role of South-East politicians within the coalition, Ezeh expressed concern that Atiku’s loyalists are attempting to dominate the structure, potentially setting Peter Obi up for betrayal. However, he affirmed that the Obidient Movement would respect Obi’s decision, trusting that he will act in the best interest of the people. He emphasized that the presidency should rotate within the South, and that the South-East is yet to have its turn. Ezeh concluded by stating that Nigerians don’t merely want an Igbo President, but a competent Nigerian leader—and that Peter Obi represents that possibility.
