The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 238 senior police officers across various ranks and departments in a major shake-up aimed at strengthening law enforcement operations nationwide.
Among those promoted are 12 Commissioners of Police elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs). The promoted officers include key figures from state commands, special units, and strategic departments such as Intelligence, Anti-Fraud, and the Eastern Ports.
This was contained in a statement issued Monday by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, who revealed that the new AIGs include Johnson Oluwole Adenola (Oyo State CP), Ako Benedict Gabriel (CP, Anti-Fraud), Ahmadu Tijani Abdullahi (CP, Jigawa), Emmanuel Adegbola Aina (acting AIG, Intelligence), and Ronke Nurat Okunade (Special Fraud Unit, FCID Annex, Lagos), among others.
The commission also approved the promotion of 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioner and 27 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners. Additionally, 145 Chief Superintendents were elevated to Assistant Commissioners. These included officers from General Duty, medical professionals, engineers, and other specialists.
Ani noted that one Assistant Commissioner missed the promotion exercise and was not considered.
The PSC stated that the promotions cut across command administration units, area commands, police colleges, and specialized units, reflecting its commitment to professional growth and institutional efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
